 Dr. Maria del Guadalupe Davidson is Director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, Co-Director of the Center for Social Justice, and a Fellow in the Faculty Leadership Academy and the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Oklahoma. Her research areas include: rhetorical theory and criticism, the intersection of race and gender, black feminism, and Africana philosophical thought. Her current book project, Black Women, Agency, and the New Black Feminism is under contract with Routledge Press. Dr. Davidson’s most recent publications include the co-edited volume Exploring Race in Predominately White Classrooms: Scholars of Color Reflect (2014). Dr. Davidson is currently working on a project about black women and curriculum design, the article “But Some of Us Are Brave: Black Feminism, Axel Honneth, and the Struggle for Recognition,” and a large project that explores the 100-year anniversary of women’s suffrage

Emma Newberry-Davis is the assistant director for the Take Root conference hosted by the WGS Center for Social Justice. She is a proud graduate of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at OU. During her time at OU, she worked for the Carl Albert Center Congressional Archives and the Women’s Outreach Center. She currently provides sexuality and healthy relationship education for a variety of organizations.
